DAVAO ORIENTAL – Governor Nelson Dayanghirang took his oath as the new Chairman of the Boy Scout of the Philippines-,Davao Oriental Council on Friday, August 9, 2019 at the Governor’s Office, with Judge Semiramis Bituin Castro, Presiding Judge of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities officiating the oath taking.

It was one moment for the Governor to vividly recall his own scouting days.

“Being the Council Chairman now, I fondly remembered my own experience in the movement. It was fun, but it was very educational also. I learned a lot of things. I learned the value of discipline teamwork, and camaraderie. These are very essential and a scout must acquire these for these will be of great help in determining their future,” he said.

Dayanghirang stressed that we have to start them young, and prepare them as the successors to today’s set of leaders.

“We must impart to them the skills of good leadership, as what I have always been inculcating,” he added.

The BSP-Executive Board is happy that the Governor is now governing the Council.

“We have very high hopes that we can do more this time, that there will be more opportunities to achieve our plans and dreams for the Council,” said Mrs. Erlinda Gambong, one of the Council’s Officers.

She furthered that while the Council is tirelessly advocating for generosity and transparency among others, she hopes that any support the council gets from the local government units and the province will be institutionalized.

As such, the Governor calls on all the local government units to support the scouting movement.

“This is our way of helping the Council to sustain its operation, and a way to entice and increase the membership of the Council.”

Before the Governor assumed the helm of the Council, the Council was, and still is, lobbying for the lot donation of the site where the BSP Office was constructed.

The oathtaking was witnessed by the officers and members of the Executive Board, led by Mr. Juanito Nombrado, Local Scout Executive, as a gesture of welcome and support to the new Council Chair. By: Neela Duallo/Photo by Eden Jhan Licayan
