“Fighting illegal drugs is not just a police matter. It’s not just a problem of one agency but a concern of everyone in the community,” said Governor Niño Sotero L. Uy, Jr. in his message earlier this morning during the provincial launch of the national anti-drug campaign dubbed the BIDA Program which bids to combat the country’s drug problem.
The campaign, which stands for “Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan” aims to encourage citizens to take an active role in the fight against illegal drugs.
Governor Uy hailed the campaign, which “signifies the provincial government’s continuous commitment to protect our youth and our communities.”
The goal of the BIDA campaign is to re-educate and reiterate to the community about the dangers of drug use and to encourage them to report drug-related activities in their communities. The campaign also seeks to provide support and rehabilitation services to drug users who want to change their ways.
Governor Uy urged everyone to support the campaign and continue to gains achieved in the previous administration of the Former President Rodrigo Duterte and up to the present leadership of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
“We have already achieved a lot and it would be a waste if we let all these efforts go down the drain,” said Governor Uy.
The launch of “BIDA” was well-received by the public, with many citizens expressing their support for the campaign. In a message of support, DILG Provincial Director Orle Cabaobao thanked the public for their cooperation and urged them to continue supporting the initiative.
Davao Oriental Police Provincial Office (DOPPO) Provincial Director Police Colonel Julius Silagan assured the police force’s commitment in the fight against the drug menace.
The “BIDA” campaign is just one of the many efforts being undertaken by the Philippine government to address the country’s drug problem. With the support of the public, the government hopes to make significant progress in the fight against drugs and create a safer and more drug-free society for all Filipinos.
Also giving all-out support are officers from the lead agencies from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the Philippine Army, and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). Facilitating the activity is the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) Action Officer Mr. Afif Ambor.
The BIDA Provincial Launch is just part the in observance of the Drug Abuse Prevention Week. A series of weeklong activities are slated which kicked off with the BIDA Fun Run event and Zumba. To highlight this week’s events is the First Davao Oriental Recovery Summit which anticipates the attendance of drug reformists who will get the opportunity for new jobs and assistance from various government agencies and private institutions.
