In observance of National Oral Health Month, Davao Oriental recently conducted a comprehensive oral health program on February 26, 2025, under the theme “Pamilya, Una Kong Dentista.” The program aimed to promote preventive dental care and establish sustainable oral hygiene practices within the community.

Held at the Girls Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) Activity Center, the event provided kindergarten children from Matiao Elementary School with comprehensive instruction on proper oral hygiene and dental care materials, including toothbrushes and toothpaste. Dr. Reden V. Bersaldo from the Provincial Health Office delivered the opening remarks, articulating the program’s objectives and establishing the tone for the day’s educational activities. The initiative included supervised toothbrushing drills and correct demonstration of brushing techniques led by Dr. Edna Bote from Lupon.

A significant component of the program also involved the application of fluoride treatments, a recognized method for strengthening tooth enamel and preventing dental cavities, led by dentists from Davao Oriental’s various Local Government Units.

The event also witnessed collaborative participation from a wide range of stakeholders and guests, including Oral Health Program Manager Dr. Jerame Yuson, Dr. Girlie Blancada from Davao Center for Health Development, Dr. Angelo Prado from the Schools Division Office, representatives from the City Health Office, Charlie’s Angels from 66IB, Barangay Health Workers, Matiao Elementary School Teachers and other program managers and staff.

The program was supported by a message from Governor Niño Sotero L. Uy Jr., highlighting the provincial administration’s commitment to prioritizing oral health among children. Through collaborative efforts in promoting preventive oral healthcare and in signifying the role of parents in establishing lifelong healthy dental practices, this initiative will resonate for generations, ensuring brighter and healthier smiles across Davao Oriental.
