Recognizing tourism as a vital driver for economic growth and improved quality of life, stakeholders emphasized strategic plans during the historic first Provincial Tourism Council Meeting, which was led by its Chairman, Governor Niño Uy.
A significant highlight of the meeting was strengthening the council by reconstituting members and appointing a new Vice Chair, Mr. Romy Elusfa, representing the province’s Hotel and accommodation sector. This initiative aims to foster government and private sector collaboration, underscoring tourism as a catalyst for progress.
Governor Uy unveiled ambitious plans, including the creation of tourism circuits to attract more visitors and the expansion of the airport to improve accessibility for travelers.
In his address, Gov. Uy reflected on the legacy of the late Governor Corazon Malanyaon and her vision for tourism. He also urged the council to sustain its momentum following Davao Oriental’s recognition at the ATOP Pearl Awards as the country’s Best Tourism-Oriented Provincial Government Unit.
“Our success is a sign that the world is now watching us. This is a challenge to continue, providing more reasons for tourists to fall in love with our province,” said Gov. Uy.
One Vision, One Future
Governor Uy highlighted that tourism is about showcasing the province’s beauty and addressing poverty. He expressed hope that through cooperation and dedication, Davao Oriental can become the top tourist destination in Region XI and a true gem of the Philippines.
