In a meaningful celebration of patriotism, Davao Oriental marked the 161st birth anniversary of national hero Andres Bonifacio on November 30. The occasion, dedicated to the man who sacrificed his life for the nation’s freedom, served as a powerful reminder of the enduring legacy of heroism.
Led by Governor Niño Uy, the event highlighted the significance of courage, sacrifice, and love for the country. In his speech, Governor Uy emphasized that freedom is never easily attained—it demands great sacrifices, as exemplified by Bonifacio and other Filipino heroes. He urged everyone to cherish and protect the freedom that was hard-won through the struggles of the past.
Adding to the event’s gravity was the presence of Brigadier General Allan Jose L. Taguba, the newly appointed Commander of the 701st Brigade, who delivered the keynote address. He underscored the importance of civic engagement and nationalism, reminding the audience that true heroism transcends wartime—it manifests in everyday acts for the betterment of others.
“Unity and readiness to serve are essential for a brighter future for our nation,” said Brigadier General Taguba. He called on everyone to foster a spirit of solidarity, underscoring that heroism thrives in the daily pursuit of the common good.
The celebration not only honored the sacrifices of the past but also inspired a renewed commitment to uphold the ideals of heroism and patriotism in the present. It was a solemn pledge to keep the spirit of Bonifacio alive, ensuring that the love for the Philippines continues to guide its people toward progress and unity.
