As the Chairperson of the Regional Development Council XI, Governor Niño Uy urged public financial management practitioners from across the Davao Region to prioritize transparency, accountability, and good governance. This call was made during the 16th leg of the Department of Budget and Management’s (DBM) Public Financial Management Competency Program (PFMCP) for Local Government Units (LGUs), held in Davao City from November 13 to 15, 2024.
The three-day event aimed to strengthen financial management practices among LGUs. Participants attended technical sessions covering topics such as budgeting frameworks, preparation phases, and local budget authorization, all led by experts from the DBM.
In his keynote speech on the program’s opening day, Governor Uy expressed gratitude to the attendees for their dedication to advancing their skills and expanding their capacities in managing financial resources effectively.
“As Governor of Davao Oriental and RDC XI Chair, I challenge you to use the knowledge and skills gained here to guide your LGUs toward sustainable financial health. Prioritizing transparency and accountability is key to enhancing good governance and achieving lasting progress,” Gov. Uy stated.
He further inspired participants, saying, “I remain hopeful that together, we can strive for excellence in public financial management. As we move forward, let us remain committed to service, inspired by the trust placed in us, and driven by the desire to build a brighter future for our beloved Philippines.”
Governor Uy also reaffirmed the full support of RDC XI and the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental for initiatives that promote sound financial practices in the region.
The capacity-building program is a comprehensive initiative tailored to equip LGUs with the necessary tools and knowledge for effective financial management. By enhancing their financial strategies, LGUs can better deliver public services and foster development in their localities.
This program stands as a testament to the shared commitment of leaders and practitioners to creating a transparent, accountable, and service-oriented government for the Filipino people.
