Governor Niño Uy recently led an inspection of the ongoing development at the Mainit Hot Spring in Cateel, marking a significant step in the province’s tourism enhancement initiatives. Accompanied by the Cateel LGU and other local officials, Gov. Uy toured the site, assessing progress alongside Cateel Mayor Emilou Nuñez and representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The Mainit Hot Spring Development Project, currently in Phase 1, has been funded by the DILG’s Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Incentive Fund and includes the groundwork for a scenic promenade and a therapeutic foot bath. During his visit, Gov. Uy highlighted the project’s potential to attract more visitors to Davao Oriental, aiming to establish the hot spring as a prime destination that balances tourism and sustainable development.

Phase 1 is only the beginning of a three-phase plan that envisions extensive improvements to enhance the natural beauty and accessibility of the area. Additional funding is being pursued to ensure completion of Phases 2 and 3, which will bring larger structures and amenities, solidifying Mainit Hot Spring as a centerpiece of the province’s ecotourism portfolio.

“We’re not just building a tourist site here; we’re building opportunities for the people of Cateel,” Gov. Uy said, noting the project’s alignment with economic goals. “Through this development, we aim to stimulate the local economy, create jobs, and foster pride in our natural heritage.”

The Governor’s visit also involved a forward-looking discussion with the DILG and local officials on the next phases, reaffirming the provincial government’s commitment to transforming Mainit Hot Spring into a community-driven tourism asset. With its therapeutic waters and scenic landscape, the Mainit Hot Spring stands as a symbol of Davao Oriental’s commitment to sustainable tourism and economic growth, a legacy that aims to inspire the nation.
