Selah, the first and only Mental Wellness Center in the Philippines exclusively dedicated to healthcare workers, has commenced its operations at Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center (DOPMC).

Just within its first week, Selah was able to provide assistance to 18 healthcare workers who were experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression, based on the evaluation process that was closely integrated with the hospital’s annual physical examination. This process is a crucial aspect of the hospital’s mental wellness program, which is seamlessly integrated into its Personnel Health Services Unit (PHESU).

DOPMC Management, headed by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Reden Bersaldo, expressed gratitude to Ms. Lovely B. Granada, RSW, a college instructor who works closely with survivors of extreme violence and abuse. She is a PhD in Clinical Psychology intern student at Ateneo de Davao University, under the supervision of resident psychologist, Dr. Rose Anelyn V. Ceniza. Dr. Bersaldo thanked them for being instruments in ensuring that the well-being of our healthcare heroes remains our top priority.

Selah provides a safe and confidential space where healthcare workers can access the support they need to heal and thrive. The center’s services include individual and group therapy, “me time”, and psychoeducation.

Selah is committed to providing a safe and nurturing space where healthcare workers can seek the mental health support they truly deserve. The center believes that caring for those who care for us is paramount.

Furthermore, it’s important to note that this initiative is just the beginning of a broader plan to enhance mental health support in the province. The Provincial Health Office and DOPMC, with valuable assistance from USAID through FHI 360, are actively collaborating to introduce additional mental health activities to foster a mentally healthy and resilient healthcare workforce.
