Sports Report: Mati Agilas Team Dominates Nic Jorge 3X3 Cup Mati Leg

The Provincial Government of Davao Oriental, in collaboration with The Basketball Efficiency and Scientific Training (BEST) Center Sports Inc. & Best Center Sports- Davao, successfully held the first Coach Nic Jorge 3×3 Cup- Mati Leg last November 26-27, 2022, at the Provincial Capitol with numerous participating teams from various Local Government Units in the province.

The two-day event was sponsored by Milo in honor of the national coach, player, and its late founder, Nic Jorge, who aimed to contribute to the growth of sports at the grassroots level through sports clinics and tournaments. The said vision was eagerly supported and backed by Provincial Governor Corazon T. Nunez Malanyaon through the Provincial Sports Office headed by Engr. Victoria Rodriguez in cooperation with the City Government of Mati and the 10 LGUs in the Province of Davao Oriental.

There were 4 Categories for Men and 1 for Women’s Basketball, participated in by different teams coming from all over the province. A total of 9 teams clashed for Men 18 Under, 8 for Men 16 Under, 5 for Men 14 Under, and 5 for Men 12 Under. Meanwhile, there were 4 teams for Women 18 Under Category. Overall, there were 124 young, dynamic players sorted into 31 playing teams who showed their basketball might and prowess and saw action on the hard court. The victors from each category will represent the province in the National Championship in Pagadian City on December 10-11, 2022.

Mati City’s Agilas made a whooping success as they bagged 3 of the Championship trophies for Men’s U-18, U-16, and U-12 as well as the Women’s U-18 Category. On the other hand, Governor Generoso’s team champed the Men’s U-14 Category.

Governor Malanyaon expressed her gratitude to the organizers through a courtesy call for bringing the opportunity to the young athletes in the province. As a supportive governor to the sports and youth sector in the province, the Governor assured her continued support for the programs towards youth and sports development.
