DAVAO ORIENTAL – Around 96,744 individuals in the entire province are being targeted to get COVID-19 jabs in next week’s National Vaccination Days.
During the multi-sectoral meeting held yesterday, November 22, in preparation for the nationwide simultaneous event, local government units have committed to identifying these individuals who will get their first dose of the life-saving vaccines.
“This would mean that around 32,248 individuals will be vaccinated each day during the three-day event, which will be held from November 29 to December 1, 2021,” said Provincial Health Officer II and Provincial Task Force on COVID-19 Action Officer Dr. Reden Bersaldo.
Dr. Bersaldo, said the vaccination would focus on several population groups. These include the pediatric population or adolescents ages 12-17 years old, the senior citizens, frontline personnel in essential sectors, and the indigent population or the 4Ps beneficiaries—the sectors identified to be good sources of eligible individuals for vaccination.
Based on the data, out of the province’s total population of 607,851, around 425,494 individuals are needed to get vaccinated for the province to achieve herd immunity. So far, as of November 20, 2021, about 214,857 individuals have already been vaccinated, consisting of 50.50 percent of the total target.
Although many individuals are still needed to get the COVID-19 shot to hit the target number of vaccinated population, Davao Oriental is one of the Local Government Units in the region with the highest rate of vaccination. Based on the data, Davao Oriental is next to Davao City in terms of vaccination coverage.
As the Provincial Government intensifies its vaccination campaign, it continuously urges the public to have themselves vaccinated to help prevent the spread of the deadly virus and help the country recover from the devastation of the pandemic.
Governor Nelson Dayanghirang also appealed to the general public to get vaccinated against the deadly virus. Disproving misinformation related to the safety of the vaccines, he said he is already fully vaccinated and that no government would endanger the lives of its citizens.
The National Vaccination Days slated next week targets vaccinating 15 million individuals in the entire country. KLD-PIO
