Fire Victims in Lupon, Davao Oriental Receive Aid from OSAP, Province, Other Agencies

Families who lost their homes in a fire in Barangay Don Mariano Marcos in the municipality of Lupon have recently received assistance from the government.

On March 4, 2021, Thursday, representatives from the Office of the Special Assistant to the President (OSAP) under Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, along with representatives of the municipal government of Lupon and the provincial government of Davao Oriental turned over assistance and other interventions to the families.

The OSAP team distributed meals, medicines, financial assistance, food packs, vitamins, masks and face shields to the affected families.

In a video message, the senator expressed his deep sadness and conveyed his support to the fire victims, saying he immediately instructed his staff to come to their aid upon finding out about their situation. He also thanked the local government of Lupon headed by Mayor Erlinda Lim for taking care of their constituents.

The fire, which broke out on February 26 at about 2:35am, killed two people. It also destroyed five houses and affected 19 individuals. The damages caused by the fire was pegged at P200,000.

During their visit, the OSAP team also gave selected recipients a bicycle, tablets for children to use under the new blended learning approach, and shoes for men and women.

The provincial government also handed out cash assistance to the fire victims amounting to P5,000 for each of the families.

Meanwhile, representatives of the Department of Social Welfare and Development also provided separate financial assistance to the fire victims. The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office staff also gave grocery packs, hygiene kits, rice and blankets.

Personnel from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Provincial Agriculture Office (PAGRI), and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority also assessed and validated possible beneficiaries for livelihood and scholarship assistance.

The National Housing Authority (NHA) pledged to provide additional support upon the completion of the assessment.
