Gov Dayanghirang Gives Speech at 14th MBBW World Congress

TAIPEI, TAIWAN – Davao Oriental Governor Nelson Dayanghirang delivered a speech during 14th World Congress of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World (MBBW) on September 28, 2018 at the Four Points Hotel in Penghu, Taiwan.

“This event of meeting the stakeholders and managers of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World for sustainable management, promotion of blue and green economy through coastal and marine tourism, is indeed, laudable, for this shall foster inclusive socio-economic sustainable development,” said Gov. Dayanghirang.

This is what Governor Dayanghirang said as he capped his speech as guest speaker during the opening ceremonies.

More than 20 country-members of MBBW attended this year’s congress together with Puerto Gallera Bay in Oriental Mindoro as the only country-member.

This year’s congress is themed with: In love with the Ocean – Governing Experiences and Visions Of Global Bays And Harbour Cities.

Gov. Dayanghirang reported in his speech Davao Oriental’s efforts on marine environment, regional development involvement and sustainable tourism. He started by introducing the province of Davao Oriental, its strategic locations in terms of geography – physical, biological ecological region and the apex of the Coral Triangle, population and other environmental landscapes, situations and issues and concerns.

He continued with the policies of the province of Davao Oriental relating to Philippine environment conservation laws and other policies. The governor also added the efforts of the provincial government for the environmental, cultural and natural heritage sustainable development.

The congress of the MBBW, a United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) affiliated organization, is an annual gathering of club members from all over the world to talk about conservation efforts and sustainable development and management practices of bays in their respective region. The 14th World Congress is held and sponsored by Penghu County and Taiwan National Government, Republic of China. The congress was held on September 27 – October 1, 2018

Davao Oriental’s participation is made successful through the benevolent and generous invitation of the Penghu County Magistrate. Davao Oriental is seeking membership for the Most Beautiful Bays in the World in the next congress to come. Text and Photos by Ednar G. Dayanghirang
