BAGANGA, DAVAO ORIENTAL – Around 1,662 Mandaya students in the province’s first district, have received school supplies during a two-day school supplies distribution held on July 11-12.

Facilitated by the Philippine Army’s 67th Infantry “Agila” Battalion, the school supplies which were donations from the GMA Kapuso Foundation, Inc., were distributed to eleven schools, mostly from the Geographically Isolated and Disadvantage Areas (GIDAs), in three municipalities namely Baganga, Cateel, and Boston.

Beneficiary Schools include Luyong Elementary School, Nursery Elementary School, Tigbawan Elementary School, Limot Elementary School, Mantapay Elemementary School, and Bagangan Elemmentary School in the municipality of Baganga; Cateel Central Elementary School and Abejod Elementary School in the municipality of Cateel; and Boston Central Elementary School in the municipality of Boston.

Each of the students happily received their school bags filled with notebooks, papers, pencils, and drawing materials.

The school supplies distribution activity was anchored to the “Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan Project 2019” in light with the opening of Department of Education’s first Semester for the schoolyear 2019.

The project aims to help parents from these impoverished communities to provide school supplies for their children. Grateful parents say they are happy about the activity as they no longer bear the burden of buying supplies for their children. And more importantly, the simple gesture made their children become more inspired to learn and go to school.

“We are here to give hope and happiness to the children of the far-flung sitios in our area of operation as we ensure the spirit of positive citizenry. Seeing the smiles on these children’s faces inspire us more to perform our duties to achieve lasting peace and development,” said Lt. Col. Louie Dema-Ala, Commanding Officer, 67IB.

As we aspire to achieved peace and development, we ensure a progressive economy through Education,” said Brigadier General Manuel V Sequitin, 701st Brigade Commander.
