DAVAO ORIENTAL—The Provincial Government’s affordable housing project implemented under the Socialized Housing Finance Corporation’s (SHFC) Community Mortgage Program is one step closer to providing shelter to its beneficiaries as they have recently signed the Lease Agreement for the lot.

On October 17, the initial 746 beneficiaries, who are members of the Mandaya Muslim Bisaya Homeowners Association, successfully signed the document at the Capitol’s Covered Court.

Beneficiaries sign the Leas Agreement during the ceremonial signing.

The said lot lease agreement is intended for the acquisition of the 15.6-hectare land in Sitio Magay, Barangay Don Martin Marundan, City of Mati, where the housing project is situated.

Prior to the signing, officers from the SHFC explained to the beneficiaries the contents of the agreement.

As stated in agreement, which essentially details the tenant’s acquisition of the lot under “Accommodation Mortgage”, the beneficiary shall pay the monthly rental of P369.42 per month which is payable up to 25 years.

Chermaine Morante, Mortgage Examiner from SHFC explains to the beneficiaries the terms and conditions contained in the agreement.

Specified in the agreement are the amount of rental, the total lot area, and use of property, among many others.

Flordeliza Tabanao, Provincial Housing Coordinator, said that after the signing of the agreement, the SHFC will pay the land owner represented by Maria Perpetua Tolentino-Cabreros.

“I’m very much happy that finally we are now in this Lot Purchase Agreement. Hopefully, this month of November the land owner will be paid. After that we will be working on the payment for the site development and the project construction,” Tabanao said.

She said that the Provincial Government hopes to start the construction next year after the compliance of legal documents.

In his message of support, Engr. Rosendo Linsag, who represented City of Mati Mayor Michelle Rabat, said that the project is “a welcome development to address the housing backlog in the city” as resettlement program is one of the top priorities of the City Government.

The housing program is a priority program of Provincial Government under the leadership of Governor Nelson Dayanghirang that bids to provide decent and affordable housing for Davao Oriental constituents, especially those who do not have a home of their own or those who live in danger zones.

“Housing is the basic necessity that should be provided by the government to the people,” Linsag added.

He also urged the beneficiaries to “help the government in building our city, our province, and our nation by doing your share of responsibility.”
