DAVAO ORIENTAL—Local Government Units (LGUs) of the province have pledged commitment to the localization of the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2017-2022 Result Matrices and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Mayors and functionaries of the city and municipalities sealed their pledge of commitment during the opening program of the three-day workshop on November 13 at Honey’s Hotel in the City of Mati.

Department of the Interior and Local Government Provincial Director Yvette Tolentino-Sunga said that the local chief executive’s commitment will ensure their contribution to further strengthen vertical linkage and alignment of local development priorities with that of the province, region, and national government.

“We are presenting what the sectoral committee came up under the Provincial Development Council. Through our department, we’re intending really the vertical linkaging of all the plans, from the national plans down to the local plans. So, we have the Philippine Development Plan and the Regional Development Plan. We also have the Provincial Result Matrix which contained the Provincial Physical Framework and Development Plan. So, all of these should be attuned, aligned, harmonized, connected, and sustainable,” PD Sunga said.

With the event being conducted nationwide, PD Sunga said she is pleased with the “best rollout of the workshop” here as majority of the mayors were present. She said this will ensure their contribution in attaining the Provincial targets as the mayors will be cascading the result of the workshop to the Municipal Development Council which is composed of Punong Barangays, who at the same time will ensure alignment of their Barangay Development Plan.

“All of us play a vital role in nation-building. The national and local officials should have a unified stand to achieve and realize the PDP and the SDG. And hopefully we will be able to achieve the Ambition Natin 2040 which is the “Matatag, Maginhawa at Panatag na Buhay Para sa Lahat”. We would not be focusing anymore on poverty alleviation, but instead we have to focus on the eradication of poverty.”

Moreover, PD Sunga said the event will help the LGUs bag the Seal of Good Local Governance since one of its criteria is the alignment of the local policies, programs, and projects to the PDP.
