DAVAO ORIENTAL- Service providers and workers at the provincial government-run drug rehabilitation center are thankful for the completion of the construction of its new Administration Building.

They say this new building at the Balay Silangan Bagong Bahay Para sa Bagong Buhay Drug Reformation Center is giving them a wider space to work. “As service providers, we ensure the successful transformation in the lives of our drug reformists and having an efficient workspace is crucial in our line of work,” said one of the in-house workers of the drug reformation center.

Situated at the Provincial Government-owned lot in Sitio Magay, Don Martin Marundan in the City of Mati, the new building was partly donated by Mr. Eduardo A. Bangayan of IGACOS Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FCCCII).

The construction of the one-story office space amounts to a total P1.6 million, of which P450,000 was partly donated by Mr. Bangayan and his family while the rest was shouldered by the provincial government.

The construction, which was facilitated by the Provincial Engineer’s Office (PEO), was completed last February 11, 2020.

Provincial Administrator and the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) Action Officer Mr. Art Benjie Bulaong said that the new facility serves as a “suitable place for service providers in handling clients, record keeping, and holding meetings with psychologists.” Previously, service providers would borrow one room from the existing building that consisted of four rooms which was primarily built as sleeping quarter at the same time session area for the clients.

Provincial Technical Consultant Cynthia Rodriguez, who facilitated the coordination between the province and the donor organization, said that the construction of another building will soon start as part of the provincial government’s aim to further expand the facility and to better cater to its residents.

For the upcoming construction, Ambassador Carlos Chan of the FFCCCII has provided counterpart funds of P450,000.

Aside from these two buildings, Ambassador Carlos Chan of the FFCCCII also donated funds for the construction of the first rehabilitation center which was inaugurated way back in 2017. The said building now serves as a sleeping quarters for the residents at the said facility.

Currently, the Balay Silangan Bagong Bahay Para sa Bagong Buhay Drug Reformation Center caters to 10 inpatient clients and 30 outpatient clients. A total of 39 inpatient and outpatient clients have already graduated from the program. PIO / Contributed Photos
